20 Seconds Of Bravery

20 Seconds Of Bravery

"You know, sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery. And I promise you, something great will come of it."

There's a scene in the movie We Bought A Zoo where the main character, Benjamin Mee relives the moment that he approached a beautiful woman for the first time (she later became his wife). While telling the story to his two kids, he recalls walking by the window of the café and seeing her all alone.

"I literally stopped. Literally stopped like this. 'Oh my God this is most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life. But I've never done anything like this in my entire life.' But she was right there, right there. And I thought to myself, '20 seconds. Go.'

"Now I'm in the restaurant. And I'm terrified, thinking about leaving. I can actually touch her. And she still hasn't seen me. I still have 15 seconds of courage left. I'm going for it.

"Bravery.

"Here's what I said"…pause…"I said, 'Excuse me, why would an amazing woman like you even talk to someone like me?'"

Then with an excited sigh, his future wife smiles and replies, "Why not?"

Whether it's an intimidating phone call, a new love, a project you've always dreamed of starting, or even jumping off a building (a parachute preferred)—give it your best 20 seconds, you may surprise yourself with the outcome.

What's your 20 seconds of insane courage?
